2017-05-04:  Last Call for Annual Conference, May 21-24 in Falmouth

This major educational and professional development event will be held May 21-24 at the Sea Crest Hotel in North Falmouth. The agenda includes over 20 workshops, panels, seminars and roundtables on timely topics relative to changes to public housing in the Commonwealth. The complete 2017 MassNAHRO Annual Conference agenda appears on pages 4 & 5. The invited keynote speaker on Sunday evening is the new Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing, Senator Joseph Boncore of Winthrop. The U. S. Department of Housing and Development will be represented by the Director of the Office of Public Housing for New England, Marilyn O’Sullivan, and others. The HUD resource room will not be available this year due to budget constraints. DHCD will be represented by Associate Director for Public Housing Sarah Glassman, along with all the Public Housing Bureau Directors, all the Housing Management Specialists, and Facilities Management Services staff in the popular DHCD resource room both days and on numerous informational sessions. Thanks to the assistance and cooperation of both DHCD and HUD, the 2017 agenda offers informative and timely workshops for LHA Board Members, administrators, staff, and residents.

Of paramount importance will be the latest changes in federal and state rules, regulations and guidelines. Topics include the local impact of the Regional Capital Assistance Teams, use of the Housing Portal central list, revised AUP audits, performance management review scoring, multiple board trainings, budgets and annual reports, contract guidelines, CORI revisions, marijuana and LHAs, plus other timely sessions. Congratulations to our Professional Development/Member Services Committee for another outstanding agenda.

2017 Scholarship Fund events include a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, the annual golf tournament and musical entertainment Monday evening, with all proceeds going to the Past Presidents Memorial Scholarship Fund. Other activities include the Annual Election, presentation of the Scholarship Awards, Massachusetts Public Housing Administrator Certification Presentation, Board Member Certification Presentation, Outstanding Agency Awards and Individual Achievement Awards.

Space at the Sea Crest is limited. Don’t be left out. Registration scholarships are available for those agencies who are financially strapped by contacting the MassNAHRO office at 617-367-0008. You can’t afford to miss this event.
